WEBSITES

Good website design is incredibly hard work. The World Wide Web is only in its infancy, and compared to print, it is a crude and difficult medium. Restrictions of colour, of different browsers and their interpretations of HTML code, of the size of graphics and of web pages, and download speeds are only some of the problems that have to be considered. Any website also needs to be clear and helpful, rather than mystifying. The designer must resist the impulse to show off at the visitor's expense.

As difficult and often intransigent as the medium is, the principles of good design remain the same, although often in little evidence, on the web.

The early days of website design, where one person could be expected to create a full-fledged site, are gone. I make no attempt to be a Jack of all Internet trades, but instead concentrate on where my strengths lie, in visual and interface design, and some simple Javascript programming.
